Information
Uncial letterforms emerged in the 3rd century by rounding Roman square capitals, the monumental Latin alphabet (see Menhart’s Monument). They were a transitional state of Latin script somewhere between majuscule and minuscule letters. They were used as text letterforms in luxurious codices as early as the 8th century, and they have survived to this day as letterforms for titles and initials.
